About Us

My name is Rev. Blair O’Quinn. I was appointed to Watson Memorial United Methodist Church beginning in July 2018 as a Licensed Local Pastor. While this is my first solo appointment, it is not the first time I have been responsible for leading a church, as the year prior I was a lay supply pastor for five churches in the Martinsville area.

I came to ministry in a roundabout way. While both of my parents are United Methodist pastors, my paternal grandfather was a Methodist pastor, my maternal great-grandfather was a Methodist pastor, and his father and so on back to the time of Francis Asbury and the beginning of Methodism in the United States, I wanted nothing to do with being a pastor. In fact, I walked away from the Church entirely for a while. It was only through God’s prevenient grace that I have been called back into the Church, and into the role of pastor.

I attended Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in Petersburg, Virginia for High School, studying the violin. After developing an overuse injury, I went to study political science at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, graduating with a minor in religion. While my interests left me with a desire to study political philosophy, such programs were becoming scarce, and so I chose to study theology at Vanderbilt Divinity School. While my interests were purely academic at the time, gradually I became drawn to pulpit ministry, particularly education and ecumenical ministry.

With one semester left in my studies, I contacted the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church to serve as a lay supply pastor and was assigned to the Two County Cooperative Parish in the Danville District in July 2017, where I served for a year before being appointed here to Watson Memorial. I graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School with a Master of Divinity in December 2017.

I am excited to be serving God as the Methodist pastor here in Chatham, Virginia, and I am looking forward to the work of disciple making here at Watson Memorial.

The peace of the Lord be with you always,
Rev. Blair O’Quinn
